Frequently Asked Questions

Why 9th Grade?
Many, who have received the Sacrament in 8th Grade, seem to identify Confirmation with Graduation.  Confirmation is far from Graduation.  Confirmation is not an end of PSR or Religious Formation; it is the beginning of using the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.  It’s a time to live one’s life as a disciple.  Instead of Graduating from something, receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation shows a willingness to be more involved in the life of the Church.

The Sacrament of Confirmation deepens the grace begun in the Sacrament of Baptism.  It strengthens us with grace to live the call of our baptism.  The Gifts of the Spirit are meant to be shared with the community.

St. Rita Parish is offering the Sacrament of Confirmation in 9th Grade for several reasons:

1) 9th Graders have a better understanding of what they are committing to and of what the Church is asking of them.
2) 9th Grade is the beginning
of High School; Just as Confirmation is the beginning of the person’s living their faith as a disciple.

Other Parishes Confirm at a different age.  Can we go there for Confirmation?
The Bishop of Cleveland has asked that teens who are in the 8th – 11th  grade be prepared for and receive the Sacrament.  Each parish decides at what age Confirmation will take place.

Confirmation is a Parish Community Celebration.  Parishioners receive the Sacrament in the Parish in which they are registered unless there is a special circumstance.

St. Rita Parish Confirmation Preparation Process consists of monthly Sunday Evening meetings beginning in September and ending in May.  The date for Confirmation is not set for 2017 yet.  We are waiting to hear from the Bishop when he is available to come to St. Rita.

What if my child attends a Catholic School?  Do they have to go to the monthly Sunday Evening gatherings for Confirmation Preparation?
The answer is yes.  Since the Church sees the preparation for and reception of the Sacrament as a Parish Community responsibility.  Even if you child attends a Catholic School, they participate in the parish preparation process.

Registration information as well as dates for our monthly meetings are found below.  If you have any questions about our Confirmation Process here at St. Rita, please feel free to call me at 440-248-1350 ext 121 or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
